Once Upon a Season

… before the birth of the latest tribe in my country called political-affiliation-real-or-imagined I served on the board of a second-tier state corporation.

It lasted only a few months, less than two years in fact, but it was sufficiently long to earn me the title Director and get me familiar with the goings on in certain board rooms (on the other side of the table). One gets to appreciate why preparation for those appointments is an absolute must. A big up to my former classmate Catherine Musakali for all the work she has done on this front. Truly commendable and an essential service.

When you are enlisted to that service you realize it is even much better if you throw in some background on the goings on in the public service offices. That type of exposure makes you aware of the intrigues that go on before those papers land on your board application wall and keeps your eyes open to all the shenanigans that go on in our wonderful institutions. After all, these institutions are managed by human beings and who does not know that to be human is to err?

If you add the peculiar habits, (Michael Joseph was being polite), of the inhabitants of my beloved country then you are bound to have a basket full, pressed together, brimming over with all manner of hanky punky.

Rome was not built in a day, it is not fair to beat ourselves too much. No doubt great strides are being made. As long as we keep on improving ourselves, we will hack it ultimately.
